During the first restriction-free Obon holiday period (※8/11～8/16) since the start of the pandemic three years ago, Hakuba Iwatake recorded its highest number of Obon visitors ever, at 17,800. That’s 130% of the total from the same period in the last pre-pandemic year of 2019, with sharp year-over-year increases in the number of mountain bikers (3.8x) and visitors with pets (2.7x) from 2021.

Friday 8/19 was the first clear morning in quite some time. It wasn’t long before HAKUBA MOUNTAIN HARBOR (pictured) was alive with weekend-like crowds, and by around 10:00, tickets for the Yoo-Hoo! Swing had almost completely sold out. In other news, the pianist Senri Oe is set to hold a live performance as part of his JAPAN Tour 2022 on 8/20 (Sat.).

For a limited time until 8/31 (Wed.), CHAVATY HAKUBA is offering scones, sodas, sundays and more made with Azumino-grown summer strawberries. The Strawberry Scone Sandwich (pictured, left) was the perfect combination of delectably sweet strawberry cream and moist, fluffy scones.

The sun today was strong, but with daytime temperatures reaching only around 25℃, the cool air at the top of the resort helped me forget about the heat of summer for a short period of time; in particular, the beech forest (pictured) and Nezuko-no-Mori areas. I noticed people in each area relaxing at tables and chairs, as well as enjoying themselves on the slackline.
