The season of fresh green leaves has finally come to HAKUBA VALLEY. Beech trees at the top area (1,289 m above sea level, shown in the photo), maple trees and Mongolian oak trees were all so green. The top area, HAKUBA MOUNTAIN HARBOR and the Northern Alps Observatory started to get crowded around 10 a.m with a nice southerly breeze blowing.

Hakuba Iwatake MTB Park opened on the first day of the Golden Week Holiday like the last year. Skill-up Area (For a fun ride, good for beginners), as well as Cross Country Course at Iwatake-no-mori (intermediate level), opened first. Then, Alpes Downhill Course (beginner & intermediate level, shown in the photo) opened on May. 3 (Fri) as the remaining snow had melted.

The upper single track opened on May. 9 (Thu) and the whole upper area opened on May.13 (Mon) at Kamikaze Downhill Course (advanced level). On the other hand, on May. 16 (Thu), the descending course, and on May. 18 (Sat), the whole course got available at Mountain Cycling Course (beginners level). Now, all courses except for Kamikaze DH are available. For your information, you can rent MTB and other equipment beside Gondola Sanroku Station.

“Smoked Sandwich with Shinshu Salmon produced in Hakuba”, which is a special menu for the Golden Week, is still on sale at THE CITY BAKERY. (※JPY1,050, shown in the photo, May-only, limited number). I enjoyed salted smoked salmon put between slices of croissants with a cup of iced caffe latte (JPY530). (※JPY400 for a combo menu with a drink)

The remaining snow on Ushiro Tateyama Mountain Range, including Hakuba Sanzan, was so beautiful against green leaves on the bottom and middle area. People looked amazed with the beautiful contrast at HAKUBA MOUNTAIN HARBOR. The snow had already melted at Nezuko-no-mori and I enjoyed a 90 minute-therapeutic walk in the forest under the sunlight coming through trees.
