It has been sunny for 11 straight days! Today, on July 23 (Mon), Kumagaya City in Saitama Prefecture reached +41.1°C, the highest temperature ever recorded in Japan. Meanwhile, in Kurobishidaira the temperature was as low as +20°C as of 7:30 a.m.. Along with the gentle wind which kept blowing from the north and it was great.

While clouds moved actively around the nature trail, they kept hanging over the ridge of the Northern Alps. A visitor from Toyama Prefecture said, “I’m sorry the mountain is behind the clouds. Anyway, I’m going to climb Mt. Karamatsu. Hopefully, I can enjoy the great view there.”

I saw Shinano-otogiri (shown in the photo), Hakusan-shajin and Tateyama-utsubogusa between Happo-ike Sanso and Happo Cairn. I felt the seasons change quickly in the mountain. There were Takane-matsumushiso and Kumoma-miminagusa around the rocky area between Happo Cairn and No.3 Cairn. Colonies of Kugaiso in the northwest of Happo-ike Pond were at their best over 10 days earlier, compared to the last year when it was at the beginning of August.

I saw lots of hikers coming though it was Monday. There was a long waiting line for the gondola and Kurobishi No.3 Pair station before the open. Clouds coming from the northwest and those arising out of the southern valley blocked the sunlight for a while.

The wind got strong as I passed through Happo Cairn and reached the ridge. It was nice and cool because the sunlight was blocked as well. After all, I couldn’t have a look of the ridge of the Northern Alps. However, people looked happy, freed from the intense heat these days.
