A lady and her daughter coming from China were the first to arrive at Kids Park in Kanenaru, which was covered with 5-6 cm of soft fresh snow (※10:00 – 15:00, entrance fee 500 yen, no entrance fee for one adult). By the way, elementary school children can ride the lifts for free on Feb.17 (Sun) as it is “Ski Kids Day”! “Kane-no-naruoka Pounding Mochi Event” will be held from 10 am too.

It was snowing with the gentle wind blowing on the slope. Soft sunlight cast over Tsuganoike Slope just after it opened, however, it soon got foggy in 15 minutes. Anyway, Tsuga-no-mori (shown in the photo) and the area along Hannoki High-speed Pair Lift were covered with “the firm compacted powder snow + 2 cm of light fresh snow”, which was great.

I reached under clouds as I arrived at the middle area of Hannoki. Maruyama Slope was also great, covered with “the soft compacted powder snow + 5-6 cm of light fresh snow”. “We’re staying at a cafeteria at the foot and practicing by ourselves.”, two members of “Gracier Ski Team”, a joint skiing club at Hitotsubasi University and Tsudajyuku University said.

I enjoyed making turns on the wide steep slope of Kane-no-naruoka as well as on Maruyama Slope. I saw lots of beginners, including lectures and students at University of Hyogo, having fun at the slope.
