On 4/2 (Sat.) and 4/3 (Sun.), the Ishii Sports Ski Test Ride & Pre-Order Event (pictured) was held in front of the Sugadaira Sun Hotel. I spoke with a participant of the event who said, “I came to find and buy skis in preparation for next season. It’s been really fun testing out a lot of different skis.” One of the staff members of Ishii Sports mentioned that this was the first time in 3 seasons they’ve been able to hold the event because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and that they were very happy to have so many people participating.

The Ura Taro Family East slope (pictured) was alive with mostly skiers on this beautiful, sunny and windless day. Conditions were excellent, with a firm slope surface composed of fine granular snow! The official snow depth has now dipped below 100cm, but there was plenty of snow remaining all the way to the bottom.

I caught up with 2 skiers from Sugadaira, who said, “We love your site! We came out intending to ski our last day of the season last weekend, but since business was extended, here we are again. With snow falling and accumulating yesterday, conditions are unexpectedly great for the end of the season.” The quiet, less-visited Usagi Course (pictured) was a great place to gaze out over the Northern Alps and take some relaxing runs.

During the special business period from 4/1 (Fri.) to 4/3 (Sun.), the Pine Beak Omatsu Quad Lift opened at 7:00, while the Taro area’s Ura Taro Stage 3 began operating at 8:00. I sat next to an instructor for a ski racing team who told me, “I’m thrilled that we were able to continue practicing at Sugadaira up until this weekend!” It really was a wonderful season with abundant, high-quality snow!
