Today and tomorrow, at the base area of Urataro Family, the ATOMIC TEST DRIVE 2022 event is taking place (※advanced reservation is required). Skier Miwa Aoki (pictured), who took 2nd place overall in the women’s All Japan Ski Technical Championships showed off the model she is using, the REDSTER G9 RS REVOSHOCK. One nice privilege the test event provides is the opportunity to receive advice directly from the DEMO TEAM skiers!

It was a classic Sugadaira Kogen day, with extreme cold temperatures preceding calm, clear weather. The well-packed wet-snow surface of the groomed Urataro Schiheil course (pictured), had the feeling of powder snow and I enjoyed a fast run down it. The sight of an advanced-level skier first thing this morning, digging their edges hard into the snow, sending up rooster tails of spray as they turned sharply and smoothly down the slope was quite impressive.

I found the conditions to be quite comfortable on the Taro Course as well (pictured), where once again the firmly-groomed surface was composed of wet snow. However, it seemed that the conditions were giving at least one beginner a hard time, and I could hear someone shouting after losing their edge and taking a fall. They were presumably part of the group of friendly, young skiers who seemed to be really enjoying themselves out on the slopes.

I was playfully greeted by a cosplayer dressed as Inosuke Hashibira, a character in the popular anime Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, who told me that he loves our site, and joked that the main character Tanjiro Kamado hadn’t shown up yet. He went on to tell me thats Sugadaira Pine Beak will be holding an event on 2/19 (Sat.) where cosplayers will be eligible to purchase lift tickets for 2,500, and encouraged people to come out for the event.
