Big wet snowflakes were falling at Base Area around 8:00 a.m.. Members of Kyoto University Snow Panther gave me the watchword, “We always enjoy your reports!” Today, rookie’s competition and team competition (compulsory) were going to be held as parts of the student competition. However, the operation of all lifts, including Gondola, was being suspended because of the approaching thunderclouds.

Snow gradually turned to rain. The rookie’s competition, which was going to be held from 9:00 a.m., was postponed and started at 10:30 a.m., due to the delay of the lifts. As soon as Kamo1 and Rai Pair started working at 8:40 a.m., lots of skiers, snowboarders, and supporters, who were in the White Plaza, headed for the lift station all at once and a long waiting line appeared.

“Male and Female Parallel Short Turn” is going to be held in the upper area of Kamoshika Racing Course and Two Top Course. There was about 15 cm of new snow containing a lot of moisture on the slope, where the granular snow was nicely firm. I was impressed by senior students preparing the slope carefully so that their junior would be able to perform well.

The rain started to fall more gently around 9:30 a.m.. By the way, Mr.Yamanoi (Health Sciences University of Hokkaido Demo Skiing Club, 1,667 points) won the three consecutive title by a large margin, 13 points, over Mr.Takahashi (Niigata Universty Gakuyukai Demo Ski Club, 1,654 points) in the male individual performance. While Ms. Doshin won the title (Hokkaido University Demo Ski Club, 1,648 points) in the female performance.
