Happo-one / Cloudy2020.Jun.01

Happo Alpine Line started running for the summer season at 8 am on Monday, June 1, as planned. All visitors will be asked to fill out a form with your name, address, etc. (pictured) and show an ID due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Hand sanitizers were placed at Gondola, Alpen Quad, and Grad Quad stations.

All visitors must wear a mask inside lifts or buildings. But you don’t have to wear while trekking along trails where you can avoid the “three Cs (closed spaces, crowds, and close-contact settings)”. I saw many visitors wearing masks and practicing social distancing today. The boardwalk is still closed and only the mountain trail is open.

The rain last night stopped. Luckily, rocks and wooden steps were not really wet. I found snow still on the ground about 50 meters away from No.2 Cairn (pictured). You should be prepared with waterproof shoes but you’ll be ok without crampons. I didn’t slip on snow even without crampons.

“Happo-ike Pond is thawing early this year. The ice may be gone by the end of June….”, a regular summer visitor (pictured) said. Yukiwariso and Umehatazao were at their best, while Miyama-azumagiku and Harurindo were coming into bloom.
