Today the CHAIR’z CAMP event was held at a specially prepared park area (pictured) at the bottom of the IWATAKE DC PARK. The concept for the event was simple and unique, with the organizers stating: “All you need to bring is a chair, drink and lift ticket!” At 10:00 a.m. raindrops were falling on the Village Side of the resort, while the weather was cloudy on the Mountain Side.

The specially prepared park area featured two side-by-side shallow half pipes along with rails, boxes and other items. The layout provided plenty of options for jumping, sliding and freely navigating the area. I talked to a park digger who said, “The event is today only, but this special area of the park will remain open until 3/28 (Sun.). Come on out and give it a try!”

There were 2 DJs entertaining visitors with music from the DJ booth set up at the base area of the park. A group of visitors enjoying the event called out to me, “We love your site!” I spoke a little more with one of them, a man from Kanagawa (pictured, 3rd from left) who told me, “I packed my chair and drove 6 hours off highway just to come and be a part of this event.”

Over on the resort’s mountain side, snow began to gently fall around 10:30 a.m., and within 30 minutes it was coming down hard. Unfortunately, on the VIEW C course (pictured), the fresh snow on top of the loose, slushy slope surface combined to really put the brakes on my skis. Heading down towards the base of the mountain, the snow turned to sleet around the middle of the Sunny Valley course, and by the Paradise Slope had turned to rain.
