Hakuba Iwatake / ◎200cm / Snowy2021.Jan.09

The third cold wave in this season brought the heavy snow from the afternoon on Jan. 7 (Thu) and the amount of the snow on the upper parts of Iwatake Snow Field reached 200cm deep. The snow became weaker at 10:00 a.m. than the early morning. In the nicely soft groomed slopes of South and Sawa Course (Photo), we could enjoy skiing very comfortably with kicking away the 3-5cm fresh snow on them.

One woman (4th from the left on photo) of a group from Hakuba and Kansai Area gave me a greeting, “I always check your reports! This is my first time to snowboard in VIEW B in these 10 years. I had a lot of fun, but I got tired.” In VIEW B, the new 20cm snow was added on the soft snow already fallen before, so even my thighs went into the deep snow at the deepest parts (70cm deep!).

By the way, “Northern Alps Scenic Tour Campaign” is held in Iwatake until Jan. 31 (Sun). When people living in Nagano Prefecture visit Iwatake for sightseeing, they will get a discount and the gondola ticket fees will be JPY1,000 per adult (Usually JPY2,100) and JPY500 per child (Usually 1,150). In the summit area, the beautiful frozen trees welcomed us.

In Sunny Valley Course (Photo), fresh and already fallen snow were mixed and the slope was rough a little bit. However, the slope was still soft, so it was easier to ski there than expected. In Paradise, there were hard parts in front of the snow making machines.
