Hakuba Iwatake / △100cm / Snowy2020.Feb.01
“Iwatake Thanks Festival”, an annual big festival in Hakuba Iwatake, was held from 10:30 a.m. It was held in an open space in front of Skyarc this season as we have warm low-snow winter. Shio no Michi (the Salt Road) Japanese drum performance was given in an opening ceremony. The meeting place was filled with the powerful sound of the drums.

Iwatake pork miso soup made in a big cauldron for 2,000 people, oshiruko (sweet red bean soup with sticky rice balls, pictured), mochi (sticky rice cakes), Hakuba Nishiki (local sake), beer, non-alcoholic beer, soft drinks, and appetizers were served for free. Free rice cake pounding event was held twice (About 3 kg of rice was used each time), too. The rice cake was served during the event.

Alumni of Shibaura Institue of Technology and Ritsumeikan University won T-shirts, towels and knapsacks in the main event, lottery. “We look forward to your reports! We used to do a live-in part-time job in the same inn.”, they said. There were about 1,150 items in the lottery, including next season tickets, Ogasaka skis, double hotel vouchers.

Shrimp soup and Kaisen Hamayaki (grilled seafood, large: 1,200 yen, small: 800 yen) was popular in Itoigawa’s local food fair. You can grill ten kinds of seafood, including salmon, scallops, squid, sailfin sandfish and turban shells, over the charcoal by yourself beside the booth. Food was almost sold out and Iwatake pork miso soup was over around 12:00.
