Hakuba Goryu / ◎355cm / Snowy2022.Mar.22

22032201_goryu47This morning I spoke with a group of 3 snowboarders (pictured) from Tokyo’s Machida City and Nagano’s Matsumoto City, who told me, “We love your site. Our friend (pictured, center) came out to visit for the first time in a long time, so we’re out here boarding together. We definitey were not expecting such good, fresh snow! We’re shocked.” Snow was falling across the early morning hours, but picked up in intensity around 8:00.

22032202_goryu47Conditions were similar on the Panorama (1st photo) and Grand Prix (pictured) courses, where the finely-grained granular snow surfaces were groomed tightly and topped off with about 5cm of dry, fresh snow! I noticed some advanced riders on Grand Prix flying down the mountain and whipping up clouds of powder behind them. There was around 3cm of new snow on top of the hardpacked, groomed granular-snow surfaces of Dynamic and Woody.

[Grand Prix Course]

22032203_goryu47The granular snow making up the surfaces of the Powder Snow Course (pictured) and the Toomi Sloop was groomed firmly, and around 3cm of new, wet snow topped things off. Things got slightly rough as new tracks were laid down, but it didn’t effect sliding. There was some fog at the top of the Powder Snow Course, making it hard to distinguish details on the snow surface.

22032204_goryu47I was greeted by a snowboarder from Kiso (pictured), who mentioned that he always checks our reports and went on to say, “Early this morning I encountered wet snow on the Toomi Slope, but up at Alps Daira it was nice dry snow. It pays to head high!” In other news, registration for Red Bull Edge 2022 (4/9 〜 4/10) opened yesterday.
