Goryu & 47 / ◎335cm / Snowy2022.Jan.21
Days with cold temperatures and consistent snowfall typical of January continue on. The light snow falling at the Gondola Line-8 top station, was noticeably heavier at the top of the resort, where it was begin blown about and carried by a strong north wind. I decided to try and seek out some powder, and aimed for Route 2 via Route 8 (pictured), where the well-packed, groomed powder-snow surface was topped off with around 7cm of new snow.

In the center of Route 2, which was groomed to the width of about 2 grooming machines, there was around 10cm of fluffy, fresh snow. The new snow on the ungroomed side areas had been packed somewhat by the wind, but totaled around 25cm. There were no noticeable bumps or uneven areas on the underlying snow surface of the ungroomed area, and I had fun pointing my board straight down and floating across the powder, without bottoming out.

I spoke with a couple of skiers from Tokyo, who told me, “We love your site. We’re actually season pass holders at Happo, where we skied the last two days, but today we were a bit worried about the wind, and we both won lift tickets through the HAKUBA Oban-Burumai Giveaway Campaign, so we decided to come to Goryu47. It was good skiing on Routes 5 and 6 (pictured), where the slope surface was composed of a nice, firmly-pressed powder snow.
[Route 6]
I found the conditions to be even better on Route 7, where the same, moderately-firm, groomed packed-powder surface was covered in around 2 to 3cm of new sow. It was a similar story on the lower part of Route 1 (pictured) in terms of surface conditions, yet with around 7cm of new snow. The snow surface firmed up little by little as I descended down the mountain, but the comfortable skiing conditions remained unchanged.
